The Imperial palace was modified on Beijing's forbiddeb City while the ramparts follow French military architeture. It is comprised of 3 walled enclosures. each within the other. The exterior moated enclosures encompasses 6 square kilometres. 10 gates, each reached by bridge across the moat pierce its outer walls. Within this lies the Yellow Enclosure and the Forbidden Purple City.
